In the past few months, Audi has unveiled a family of new concept cars with the tentative name of Prologue. First, there was the Prologue Coupe, which was unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Then, the Prologue Avant Wagon debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. And now, we get to see the Prologue Allroad, which was just unveiled at the Shanghai show this week.
The Prologue Allroad might be the most impressive concept of the three, and as the name implies, it is certainly the most versatile. With a a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine (with a plug-in hybrid option), the Allroad concept gets 724-horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels.
This beastly luxury car could be a big development for Audi in the years to come, whether this concept itself gets produced, or if it inspires design elements in another forthcoming Audi.
The Prologue Allroad is one of the most powerful luxury wagons we’ve seen, with a sleek, monochromatic design and that powerful engine we mentioned. This car can make zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds flat, and in tests with the hybrid option, it can get 98 miles per gallon on an electric charge. The Prologue Allroad is a superb mix of power, class, and efficiency, and it would be sure to be a hit if it ever sees dealership lots.
Perhaps the coolest feature about the Prologue Allroad concept, though, is that it could get this electric charge wirelessly through Audi’s patented inductive charging rig, which is headed to production in the very near future. This all but eliminates the worries current electric car owners have about running out of a charge on a long drive.
Of course, the Prologue Allroad also comes with high-end luxury finishes and features that you’d expect from Audi, such as: touchscreen displays, built-in tablets, leather seats, wood trim, and so forth. This car would be a fancy, expensive Audi after all.
It remains to be seen whether any of the Prologue concepts will make it to production, but here’s hoping the awesome Prologue Allroad, or something very similar, comes available soon!
