Excellent gas-mileage has become a total prerequisite for new car buyers–the price of fuel is just too high to not worry about a vehicle guzzling it down. But you don’t have to buy a hybrid to get good MPG.
There are plenty of cars that get over 30 MPG in the city and 40 on the highway that aren’t hybrids.
No need to settle for a car with crappy pickup. Get a real car, with really great MPG.
Here’s a look at 6 non-hybrid cars that still offer incredible mileage.
Top 6 Fuel Efficient Cars That Aren’t Hybrids
#6 Volkswagen Golf TDI
(30 city / 42 highway)
Diesel cars are going to cost a bit more, but they’re going to offer a heck of a lot better mileage than a lot of gas-burners out there. The Volkswagen Golf TDI makes the gas-powered Golf equivalent look like a complete guzzler by comparison.
MSRP: Starting at $25,200
#5 Volkswagen Passat TDI
(31 city / 43 highway)
The Volkswagen Passat TDI makes the list at #5.
It’s a mid-sized sedan, but you can get over 40 miles to the gallon on the highway with the 2014 Volkswagen Passat TDI, and that’s a very attractive feature.
It’s another diesel model, so the sticker price is a bit higher than you might be used to for a car like this, but the savings on fuel alone will do a lot to make up for that price tag difference within the first couple of ownership years.
As a bonus, it has nearly 16 cubic feet of storage space–which is a heck of a lot more than we can say for our next car on the list!
It’s also a lot more than you’d get with almost every Hybrid (the exception being the Prius V).
MSRP: Starting at $26,295
