Openbay, an online company that assists in helping motorists book auto repairs, is changing the auto repair industry forever.
The company just announced plans for Openbay Connect – an app on your smartphone that will diagnose whatever issues your car is having and then will recommend a local auto shop that can perform the necessary services.
Yes, even in auto repairs, it seems that there’s an app for that. With a smartphone, you’ll be able to learn what is wrong with your car in seconds, and you will be able to remedy the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. Openbay Connect is an ambitious plan that will certainly be a huge game-changer if it works in the way it is intended.
So how does Openbay Connect use your smartphone to detect what is wrong with your engine? It’s not as crazy as it sounds. The app works in conjunction with your car’s OBD II diagnostics port, a mandatory feature for cars built after 1996. In this port, you just plug in a cellular-enabled, Openbay-supplied device, a voila – it will pair with your phone.
After the device is attached, whenever anything goes wrong with your car, you will get an alert notification on your cell phone that tells you what the issue is, what nearby shops can fix the problem, and when they have availability.
In this way, the Openbay Connect feature turns a frustrating headache of a situation into an easy process that cuts out many annoying steps such as diagnosing problems and contacting shops. Obenbay Connect is only available for iPhones right now, but plans to include other phones are certainly underway. The app will roll out later this year in selected markets, and with selected models and makes of vehicles.
The Obenbay Connect system is in the early stages, and it remains to be seen whether this cool new idea will work as well as the company claims. However, in any case, Openbay Connect looks to be a big breakthrough in the way that we diagnose and repair issues with our vehicles.
