What Are The Best 5 Electric Cars in 2014? Find Out Here!

By on April 10, 2013

It wasn’t very long ago that the idea of electric cars seemed beyond far-fetched.

Sure, vehicles that run off an electric charge have been around for decades, but it was hard work to break them into mainstream public consciousness.

Now, though, they seem to be popping up everywhere. BMW, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and just about every car manufacturer in between, is busy making its own versions of these green machines.

2014 is going to be huge for the electric car. Take a look at these top five models hitting dealer’s lots this year.

The Chevrolet Spark, made in Korea, was one of the smallest cars available in the U.S., giving new car buyers an inexpensive, easy-to-drive, super compact option that’s incredibly attractive for city dwellers. Now, they’re unleashing the Spark EV, which offers all those advantages (though with a bit higher price tag), plus an eco-friendly electric power source.

There have been some criticisms about the Spark EV, mainly in its long charge time and limited driving range. And at 82 miles, the range does seem rather short, especially for people with long commutes, but when you compare the Spark EV to other electric cars out there, you’ll see that the 82-mile range (which is an average city/highway combination) is actually on the high end.

The 2014 Chevy Spark EV is powered by a 105-kilowatt, 140-horsepower motor. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery features a 21-kilowatt-hour capacity

There are two trim models of the Spark EV to choose from, the 1LT and 2LT, with only a few small differences between them.

The 1LT comes equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry/ignition, heated front seats, a Chevrolet MyLink 7-inch touchscreen on the console with plenty of connectivity options for Bluetooth gadgets and mp3 players, and much more.

The 2LT has all that plus premium leatherette upholstery and a steering wheel with leather wrapping.

At a Glance:

  • MPG – 128 city / 109 highway
  • Motor/Battery – 105-kilowatt motor/lithium-ion battery
  • Charge time – 7 hours (240 volts), 20 hours (110 volts)
  • Doors – 3
  • Style – Hatchback

MSRP: Starting at $26,452
