Gas Savers: The 9 Most Fuel Efficient Cars in 2014
We spend a lot of time here at Motor Guides talking about fuel efficiency, because we understand that gas mileage is a huge consideration when buying a new (or used) car these days.
Gas prices have dropped from where they were a couple years ago, but it still costs you most of an arm and a leg to to fill up a tank.
So, in the spirit of our discourse on MPG (also see our article on non-hybrid cars with great MPG), here’s a look at 2014’s most fuel efficient cars on the lot, covering nine different classes of vehicle.
Most Fuel Efficient 2014 Cars in 9 Classes
Two-Seat Car: Honda CR-Z

Fuel Economy (MPG)
- City – 36
- Highway – 39
- Combined – 37
It’s not the greatest gas mileage you’ve ever seen, but for a two-seater, Honda’s CR-Z hybrid offers quite a bit in terms of fuel economy.
This is a small car, with just a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine, but it’s just about as close to perfect as you can get for city drivers and short-commuters.
Mini-Compact Car: Scion iQ
Fuel Economy (MPG)
- City – 36
- Highway – 37
- Combined – 37
Another tiny vehicle, the Scion iQ is also pretty tame in the engine department (1.3-liter, 4-cylinder).
But the gas mileage is better than decent with a combined MPG of 37.
Doing some quick calculations, you can figure on spending just $2.45 for every 25 miles (split fairly evenly between city and highway driving).
For folks looking to save money on gas, the Scion iQ is a solid pick.
