Slovakian company AeroMobil has created a fully functional flying car that’s straight out of your favorite science fiction movie – except that it is 100% real.
In development since 1989, the AeroMobil 3.0 is the latest and greatest prototype in the world of flying cars.
Amazingly, the logistics of owning such a vehicle aren’t too different from the car you currently drive. The AeroMobil flying car can be driven like any other car, and can be refueled at regular gas stations. In driving mode, the car also gets an impressive 29 miles per gallon.
However, if you want to take full advantage of this amazing vehicle, you’ll want to lift off. In flying mode, the AeroMobil 3.0 can reach speeds of 124 miles per hour, and can travel 430 miles on a full tank of gas. Needless to say, 430 miles of straight-line air travel is probably a little more efficient for getting around than waiting in rush hour traffic on the ground.
While the AeroMobil 3.0 is not for public sale yet, it continues to undergo flight testing in Slovakia, with impressive results. The car recently received certification by the Slovak Federation of Ultra-Light Flying (SFUL) as authorized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Slovak Republic.
So while you can’t purchase your own flying car yet, the AeroMobil 3.0’s success leaves little doubt that the future might not be as far off as you think.
