Best 10 American Made Cars in 2014

By on April 17, 2014

#2 2014 Chevrolet Impala Sedan

A whole new design and the addition of incredible tech features (not to mention an upgraded interior design that redefines luxury for cars in its class) make the 2014 Chevy Impala the perfect choice for #2 on our list.

The Impala has been around for decades, but it’s never been seen quite like this–the 2014 model’s redesigned interior is just as bold and beautiful as its new exterior.

The console, which has always been a little outdated-looking in the past, has been given a shove into the modern age with an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen that allows for quick control of music, navigation and climate. But if you’re new to the system, there are also manual buttons for all that jazz, too.

And while it might seem a slight upgrade, the ability for passengers to pair gadgets via Bluetooth to the console while the car is in motion is a notable improvement–especially for those of us who understand the annoyance of having to pull over and turn off the engine to do so in the past.

The 2014 Impala is improved in just about every way and should definitely be a consideration for new sedan buyers.

In Brief:

  • MPG – 21 city / 31 highway
  • Seats – 5
  • Engine – 2.5-Liter, 4-Cylinder
  • Horsepower – 195
  • Style – Sedan

MSRP: Starting at $26,580

#1 2014 Tesla Model S

There’s no doubt that the electric Tesla Model S isn’t the right fit for everyone–at $80,000, it’s a pretty steep investment–but if price wasn’t a concern, I think anyone who knew anything about the Model S would pick one up in half a heartbeat. It’s quite simply a beautiful car to look at.

But what’s even more important is its top-tier performance, excellent mile range (265 miles!) and superior comfort. Automobile magazine awarded the 2013 model the “Car of the Year” award for its power and super-easy driveability, but the 2014 model is even better, believe it or not.

Acceleration in the Model S is so quiet you might be worried the car wasn’t doing anything at all, but if your eyes are open (and they certainly should be!) then you won’t be able to miss the ferocity with which it drives. To be more specific, this electric car goes from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and has an unbelievable top speed of 125 miles per hour.

You have two options for the Model S: a 60 kWh or an 85 kWh model.

Even the lesser choice still has a max range of 208 miles which puts most other electric vehicles on the market to absolute shame.

Yes, it’s expensive, but if you can manage the financing (California residents get an estimated $7,500 tax credit, by the way), then I guarantee you’ll fall head over heels for the Model S. It’s not just good, it’s not just great, it’s spectacular.

In Brief:

  • Range – 265 miles
  • Seats – 5
  • Battery Size – 85 kWh
  • Charging Rate – 10.0 kW
  • Style – Sedan, Electric Vehicle

MSRP: Starting at $80,000

While international car manufacturers are creating some truly magnificent models, you can still find EXCEPTIONAL American-made vehicles.

These are just 10 of the many, many outstanding options.
