When discussing future technologies and hypothetical automotive innovation, the term “concept car” gets thrown around a lot. There are a lot of concept cars being designed at any given moment, and a good portion of them will turn into real, tangible models.
However, there are concept cars, and then, there are “dream cars.” Cars in this category are so wacky and far out than the chances of them ever being fully produced are somewhat dubious – but damn, they are so exciting and fun to imagine.
Well, get your imagination going, because the Torq, from Italian engineering and design company ED, was just unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, and this fantastical creation is something straight out of your wildest dreams.
The Torq from ED is unlike any car you’ve ever seen, without a doubt. You’ve seen self-driving concept cars before, probably, but you have never seen a vehicle that is designed to be a self-driving RACE CAR. And that is exactly what ED claims the Torq is capable of.
But it is not just this fact that makes the Torq something straight out of your dreams. The car does not feature any windows, placing the passengers in a pod that is right out of some crazy science fiction novel. Don’t worry, though, even without a windshield or windows you still can see the road, thanks to mounted cameras that project a 360-degree view of the road onto the interior television screens in the car’s cockpit.
Even if it’s intended to be self-driving, the Torq does not sacrifice the power usually reserved for big, bad supercars. The Torq utilizes four electric motors, one for each wheel. The car allegedly can put out 429 horsepower and a 1328 lb-ft of torque, which is probably necessary for a car called the Torq.
Whether this dream car ever turns into a viable model is anyone’s guess, but for now, we should all just sit back and marvel at ED’s engineering feat.
