If you’re a safe driver, you can be saving quite a bit of money on car insurance.

When a policy holder has had a clean record with no moving violations or accidents over the past several years, insurance companies often offer discounts.

Some companies also reward their policy holders for taking part in safe- or defensive-driving educational courses.

Talk to your agent to find out if there are any local classes being held that can earn you some premium price cuts.

#1 Pare Down Your Policy

This one’s tricky, but if done right (and smartly), it can save you quite a few bucks on car insurance.

Now, you don’t want to get rid of the important collision coverage features of your policy, but there are a few addenda and features that can definitely go by the wayside.

For instance, if you’re paying for any kind of rental cars through your policy, get rid of it. It’s simply not cost-effective, in most cases.

Also, dump the bit about roadside towing. If you take good care of your car and drive safely, you probably won’t need this feature. And even if you do–because, let’s face it, stuff happens–it probably won’t be often enough to warrant the amount you’re consistently paying for the service. Not to mention the fact that in the case of an accident, towing is almost always taken care of with collision coverage.
