#2 Honda Accord Coupe

It’s hard to know when to upgrade to premium car model. Often the bells and whistles sound like just a giant waste of your hard earned cash.

When it comes to the Honda Accord Coupe, however, the added horsepower of the upgraded EX-L model is well worth the added cash.

The EX-L’s 278 Horespower versus the standard LX-S 181 HP:

  • EX-L speeds the car from 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds and reaches a 1/4 of a mile in 14.2 seconds at a speed of 102 mph
  • LX- S speeds from 0 to 60 in 7.1 seconds, reaching 1/4 of a mile in 15.5 seconds at 93mph

A few seconds or a few less mph may not seem like a big deal, but trust us if you are a speed demon you will notice.

Price, Fuel Economy, Power:

  • MSRP: From $23,775 ($28,495 for EX-L)
  • MPG: 26 city/35 highway/30 combined
  • Curb weight: About 3,400 pounds
  • Horsepower: 181 HP to 278 HP
  • Torque: 252 lb-ft
  • Engine: 2.4L, 3.5L

#1 Subaru Impreza WRX

The Subaru Impreza WRX tops our list of the top fast cars under $30,000 because of the innovation it took for the Japanese automaker to make such a fast AWD car.

The car zips from 0 to 6o in 5.2 seconds and tops out at 130mph.

The car’s superior steering, acceleration and robust drivetrain makes this car drive like a sports car.

The car’s AWD capabilities, in turn, high performance offers the same protection from the elements as a rugged truck or SUV.

We would never recommend testing out the AWD capabilities and speed capacity of this vehicle at the same time. Nonetheless, it’s nice to know that if you wanted you could technically drive on a snowy road at 130 mph.

Price, Fuel Economy, Power:

  • MSRP: From $26,295
  • MPG: 21 city/28 highway/24 combined
  • Curb weight: 3,267 to 3,450 lbs
  • Horsepower: 268 hp
  • Engine: 2.0L
